About

 Minimally Invasive Surgery Department was established on March 15, 2004 within the General Hospital. The Department had its head – Veroljub Pejčić, MD, nurse in charge – Slovenka Jovanović, senior nurse, and one specialist – Slobodan Jovanović, MD. All surgical procedures were conducted within the operating theater of the General Hospital, primarily hernia surgery and laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.Minimally Invasive Surgery Center was formed on September 1, 2007, as a completely separate organization unit of the Clinical Center Niš. It is in the same space, which is now the General Surgery Clinic, with the same number of beds. Veroljub Pejčić, MD, is still the director.After renovation in 2008, the Center has started working in the new premises. Modern interior now has four rooms (one of which is a suite with a bathroom, one single room, one double room and one room with six beds). All the rooms are connected via audio and video signalization. There is a room for the head nurse and nurse in charge, room for changing and director’s office. There is also a modern operating theater with the latest equipment.Minimally Invasive Surgery Center is predominantly dealing with hernia surgery (open surgery, laparoscopic surgery of inguinal hernia, laparoscopic surgery of ventral and postoperative hernia with a two-component mesh), obesity surgery by placing the Swedish adjustable gastric strips (SAGBO), laparoscopic spleen surgery, etc. In the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, about 1500 different surgical procedures are conducted per year. The focus is on one-day hernia surgery under local anesthesia.
